Does anyone have suggestions for good, fuel efficient winter vehicles? And is owning two vehicles worth it for the large amount of fuel savings (keeping in mind we’re in Ontario where gas/diesel is more expensive, although prices haven’tbeen too bad as of late!) We already spend about $600 a month on fuel as it is, we live in a small town and have to drive 40+ min to get anywhere.

From what I understand, one should expect a battery coolant service visit to run in the $450 650 range every 4yrs. Anyway, those were the kinds of things that went into the maintenance cost estimates.
Someone eventually pays for it.It was, as the experts here knew, the 12V battery. Replaced on warranty, and all is well.Lingering issue is the battery died in 30 months and 8500 miles. If that an expected life, I hope there a source for non OEM batteries at some point. Near as I can tell, no one else sells a battery that fits/works in the i3.Otherwise, this is a great car.
But as I said I never driven it so I not sure. This is a stunning car, especially for a relatively small manufacturer price. It’s fast, handles well, is super fun to drive, and is very rare. You could build a basic one up for $55,000 but if you want something to compete with the fastest in the world, look to spend $80,000+.

4 years ago I discovered Bogleheads and since then, I’ve followed the 3 fund passive index funds approach and turned all my attention to improving in my professional space. It turns my stomach thinking back how much more savings I would have today if had cashed out at the top or even if I just stuck to 3 fund index investing from the beginning. Today I still have over $100k in carried over cap losses I been writing off in my tax returns $3k at a time for many more years to come and I consider that tuition from the school of hard knocks and reminders of my hubris.
This doesn sound like a big thing but it a huge thing in the corners and probably the reason I keep buying BMWs. If it a pre 08 2 litre your going to be paying about 720 a year for tax I think. These cars were over engineered and built like tanks. Nothing like Benz’s of today.

So it basically like a corolla in a bmw shell the way I look at it, you are only paying for a nice interior and a bmw badge on it. I just don see the point in buying a performance luxury car if it not sporty. It like buying a new Challenger opting for the v6 instead of the 5.7 or 6.4 392 for an extra 5 6k.
Around this time it occurs to me to just ring Nuna as there might be something wrong with the seat. They tell me that the seat isn’t compatible with the 3 series, 4 series, X1 and one I can’t remember. Well I’m shocked honestly that it wouldn’t just fit any car, especially a new car!
The car: a BMW i3. It has only two seats in the back so width isn’t an issue, but front to back size is. Also, the back doors are suicide doors, so I’ll need to be able to undo the latch connectors and pivot the seat 90 degrees to remove my child while he’s rear facing. I’m concerned that when the seat reaches its upper limits for latch and we need to switch to belt installation, it will get too difficult to operate.
Hard work. Yes. That’s exactly what success is supposed to be made of. Grit and conviction. And I’m thinking, some of those guys who are driving those BMW’s and Mercedes just have to be one of those guys. One of those guys who worked hard, who busted his ass, who got it all done, and who took on the challenge like a matador takes on a bull with grit, conviction, and a bit of risk. If not, any of us busting our asses is for moot. If not, then the idea that hard work pays is a great big lie, and I simply don’t want to believe that. I need to not believe that.
However, there is a firm that does such things as a matter of course, that finishes every car by hand and, during its 52 year history, has seldom produced more than 1,500 vehicles in any 12 month period. And, with allocations to any particular market never exceeding thelow hundreds, the chances of another of these cars pulling up beside yours are extremely small.
Meanwhile BMW has that plastic aluminum everywhere and the black plastic everything. I’d bet it’s the most plastic of the 4 brands. But don’t take my word for it. The CEO is on the verge of being fired for low profits and the answer has been lower overhead and cut motorsports.
