I gotten lenses from eBay, KEH and local pawnshops and have had good luck. KEH is probably the most painless everything I gotten from them has been better than expected. eBay is a bit of a crapshoot since it more or less impossible to evaluate a lens based on a few pics you gotta dig through a ton of feedback and at some point, just hope for the best. And yes to what pp said about maintaining! My dh works on cars and said we will never get one. Tires are expensive, oil changes are $150. I had a tiny bump with one in a parking lot (seriously just a scratch, no dent) and their dealer charged $750! The scratch on my dodge rubbed right off. What about searching someone car for illegal contraband? That is connected to having a driver license as well but it still illegal to do so without their explicit consent or a warrant. This isn any different. You can just sign away your rights. This is held up in contract law all the time.

So is that worth it to you? There no right answer to that; it fine if that is worth it to you. But that how you have to look at it. Saying this would be more reliable than my Ranger (which you not doing) is just denialism. It not real. You could rebuild the damn Ranger from scratch for less than what you lose on the BMW. If you do it I would suggest paying it off as quickly as possible. Definitely do pursue the credit union route and try to get a better rate, possibly with a shorter term.

I think your bigger issue is going to be liability insurance. Obviously I don know for sure what that will cost, but motorsports are very dangerous and death or debilitating injury are both possible and occur with some frequency. It not insurmountable, but could be expensive for the school to hold insurance like that (as in they may want, like, $5M liability insurance in the event a student is killed during a race).

My advice would be to wait an try to score a great deal. I looked on the internet almost everyday for 3 4 months before this car popped up. It happens a decent amount at luxury dealerships, from what I understand, where a person will come in and buy the lower end 3 series and then want to upgrade a month later.

Squeaky BrakesI learned after I had the car for six months, that squeaky brakes are considered normal for the TT. I had brought the car in for some normal maintenance and asked them to check my brakes. I noticed that almost every time I braked, especially in colder weather, I heard a loud squeak.

4 years ago I discovered Bogleheads and since then, I’ve followed the 3 fund passive index funds approach and turned all my attention to improving in my professional space. It turns my stomach thinking back how much more savings I would have today if had cashed out at the top or even if I just stuck to 3 fund index investing from the beginning. Today I still have over $100k in carried over cap losses I been writing off in my tax returns $3k at a time for many more years to come and I consider that tuition from the school of hard knocks and reminders of my hubris.
